PI: Darci J. TraderDarci received her BS and MS in chemistry from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville in 2006 and 2007, respectively. She then went on to pursue her doctoral studies at Indiana University under the direction of Prof. Erin E. Carlson. Here, she worked on developing a new chemoselective enrichment tagging protocol to discover natural products. After obtaining her PhD in 2013, she joined The Scripps Research Institute in Prof. Tom Kodadek's lab. At TSRI she learned to generate HTS libraries and screen them for the desired biological activity. Her own lab is focused the development of drug-like molecules and probes to monitor and perturb the activity of the proteasome. Small molecule probes, stimulators, and inhibitors are being generated to study the role of the standard proteasome and immunoproteasome in a variety of diseases. Her trainees are currently pursuing medicinal chemistry and chemical biology studies to develop new treatments for hematological cancers, proteasome stimulators to combat neurological diseases associated with protein accumulation, and new techniques to target the activity of the immunoproteasome.
